Talk the talk
Every sport or profession has its own lingo and sailing is no exception. To help sail the boat you need to be able to talk the lingo. For example the pointy end is the bow and the blunt bit the stern.
Take the time to visit www.thebigblue.com.au Study section to start the learning process.
During the on-board lessons we will be referring to these parts of the boat so it's best to get familiar with the real names instead of the common laymans'
approach.

1. Dress your feet for the occasion: No high heels or black sole shoes that will mark the gelcoat please!
2. Comfortable, sensible clothes that cover and protect from the sun and wind. Always have a warm jumper and
wet weather gear.
3. Hats are essential, carry a spare or tie a line to your cap and attach it to your shirt.
4. Don't forget the sunnies for your eyes and your looks!
5. Apply plenty of sunscreen especially to the face and backs of your hands. Don't forget the lip screen.

6. Take drinking water and a snack if you will be out for a long time.
7. Tell the instructor if you cannot swim.

Sailing is one the most natural sport there is, it is drivern by the elements, clean water, clean air and your mates.

2. Explain the dangers onboard a boat e.g. winches and the boom.
3. Explain how to move around the boat.
4. Explain the parts of the boat.
5. Then we will go sailing.
