Courses for kids 

We are currently running courses each Wednesday and Sunday at a special price for a limited time only. We are currently limited to the number of children in the class so it is important to book in advance so you are not disappointed. Our boats are brand new Optimists. We are currently developing the after school sessions as a after school centre where the children can come and play. They will learn to have fun around the water. The activities will include sailing, snorkelling, and making use of the beautiful beaches within the harbour at Manly. Give us a ring, we will look after your child until you finish work.

The Manly Yacht Club also have 6 Manly Juniors that can be adopted through out the season, contact the Manly Yacht Club if you are interested. I have strong memories of when I was a kid sailing and the adventures I had sailing with my friends around the harbour. Manly is a perfect environment with so many harbour beaches and wild life around, it would have to be one of the best locations in the world for learning to sail.

Why is no one doing it? We are trying to change that for the next generation of sailors before they became extinct.

The Optimist is, quite simply, the dinghy in which the young people of the world learn to sail.
Sailed in over 110 countries by over 150,000 young people, it is the ONLY dinghy approved by the International Sailing Federation and now Yachting Australia exclusively for sailors under 16 years of age.
At the Athens Olympics over 60% of the skippers and 70% of the medal winning skippers were former Optimist sailors.
and both Ed Baird and Dean Barker were winning in Optimists before they were ten!

The training is aimed for 7.5 to 15 years olds, we do run adult courses in a different class.
STEP ONE .............. Introduction to sailing 2hr course on Sunday at 9am ..............Cost $30

The idea of this course is to make the first step fun, so is run slightly different from the coaching courses, it's all about having fun on and off the water to get the kids excited about this great sport.
